The calligraphic genre of Giovanna Bruschi
The calligraphic genre of Giovanna Bruschi is revealed both in her microscopic or gigantic proportions. The exquisite etchings add value to her inner self, who seems to dissolve into the production of millimetric graphic executions. Such undertaking is the result of freeing energy to catalyze the author’s spiritual tension between microcosm and macrocosm. All contrasting tensions are therefore always resolved, never weighed down by psychological complications, but rather mitigated by mental serenity, not limiting the artist’s inspiration from the unmistakable Umbrian identity (i.e., mainly, the roles of the Perugian masters Dottori and Donati, reinterpreted with a personal style, and my ‘profane’ competence implies the abstention from further technicalities). In the overwhelming white bright surfaces, the layout of the drawings are surrounded by an expert rendering of the most recent album dedicated to the mystic Angela of Foligno, which unequivocally confirms the superior quality of Bruschi’s ideas, in a very stable equilibrium between infinity and the limitations of reality. The main instrument, the artist’s hand, is perfectly calibrated and without interference, in total harmony with the true meaning of the term “inspiration”. It is therefore a symbolic expression that directs all concrete references to what best characterizes Giovanna Bruschi’s most current statement, as an emblem that stands for absolute autography.
